VISIONARY
Bando Boys was inspired by the roadman culture and the love for grime music. Grime music was the driving factor that brought the British aesthetic to the rest of the World. The clothes and the genre are deeply tied to the roots of the British roadman culture.
When thinking of the roadman aesthetic, one may think of matching tracksuits and puffer jackets but it runs much deeper. This aesthetic in its peculiar form is a combination of two things- posturing and practicality. Practicality is the foundation on which the roadman aesthetic was formed as well as being relatively affordable, accessible and durable.
The wearing of oversized outwear and hoodies are not just worn for utilitarian reasons but as a defense mechanism. This means that it acts as a coat of armor and another way of saying we are prepared for whatever.
One of the most succinct explanations of the evolution of the roadman style is when clothes came to play an integral role in the perception of a person. Clothes became tools in the projection of power, importance, and wealth. The roadman aesthetic became synonymous with fame and a new kind of success.
The roadman look and grime came to ascendency in the early 2000s but it wasn’t for the next decade that it came into the mainstream.
